Egads! When Photoshop and narcissism collide
I entered the bloggersphere to sharpen my creativity – I’ve found I need specific tasks to direct my energy towards, otherwise I end up reading the fashion feed and drawing stick figures all day. My blogging challenge up this point was just to make pretty pictures and to occasionally write a bit of drivel about my SL experiences and second rate opinions on fashion.
I received a notice earlier in the month about the winner of the Paper Couture photo contest, Eyva Matova. I was desperate to see the winning picture so I jumped over to her Flickr account to scout it out. I’m not sure whether it was this or this that won the competition, but both images blew me away, and I thought it was time to start upping my personal ante in terms of how I present images.
I found this image of Marc Jacobs from an upcoming issue of Interview on Perez Hilton (sssh.. we all have dirty little secrets), and I loved the high contrast and and it’s elegant minimalism.
I particularly loved the way the shoulders on Marc seem to disappear into the ether and the way the magazine title integrates colour and contrast into a colour scheme that could easily blend into nothingness on a newsagent’s rack. So… to emulate…
I’ve not been inworld of late, so I wasn’t able to replicate the pose, clothes or hair. In fact, I’ve used a headshot from one of my first posts, about Nylon Pinkney’s skins.
Innit a face that could launch a thousand ships?
I’ve not been using PS for long, but I have to say I’m fairly happy with this result:
I don’t know if the image would make me stop and buy a Genevieve™ Magazine (though the publisher has excellent taste in music!), but hotdiggity, it was fun to do.
Where to buy?
Hair | Hiccup
Skin | Nylon Outfitters
Eyes | Celestial Studios
Lashes | Cake

That’s very cool!
I gotta grab that mag, because those are defenitively some of my favorite bands, HI5!! What I want to know, tho, is wow, what IS that font you used, please?? Thanks for sharing!
ty Elka! The band font is Verlag Compressed, from Hoefler and Frere-Jones (http://www.typography.com) and the title font was my own creation… no idea how I did it, though!
