A just-popping-out-for-milk outfit
My SL existence over the past few weeks has consisted of reading the feed, emailing friends and diving inworld for a ten minute floury of unrestrained purchasing (Hello, 69 sale! Welcome to my inventory Aoharu! MiaSnow skins – why haven’t we met before?) before resuming the insanity of my RL. I think I’ve been wearing a semblance of this outfit for a good week or more (blasphemous, I know).
It’s all a bit Carrie Bradshaw, isn’t it? Amazing how powerful that show’s styling has been.
I’ve wrestled with all kinds of variations to the ensemble – orange stockings, assorted t-shirts, fuck-off boots, hair by the millions – but I just couldn’t capture whatever the combo of skirt and corset was telling me to add to the ensemble (what? your clothes don’t speak to you? I bet they’re telling you to buy new underwear RIGHT NOW).
Thankfully, once I remembered Melatonin Hax’s new venture, Split Pea, everything fell into place. Like Mercury millinery (but without the controversy), these are big statement pieces that are freaking awesome in construction and innovative in design. To be honest, I didn’t even wait for the images to rez inworld before I bought the selection – the quality of the Zelda hats that were Melatonin’s previous release were enough for me to pounce. As an aside, the sheer and unbridled enthusiasm of the The Starlust Motel mob is a joy to behold. I understand the difficulties being a designer in SL can bring to the table – crashes, inventory loss, impatient customers, vendors from hell – and I empathise with the struggle. It’s really nice, though, just to see happy people who are genuinely excited about the good stuff SL has to offer. I am a large fan.
I also bought the new Maitreya ankle socks for my look – it’s really nice to see socks specifically made to not ride sky-high. The prim wrinkly bits are well done, too – subtle, rather than looking like you’ve attached a wheel of cheese to your calf or thigh. Not that I have issue with wearing cheese. Or bread. Preferably, both at the same time. With wine in hand. But only on Sundays.
I’m also very much in love with Dove Swanson’s poses right now – this one in particular made me feel like a sassy chorus girl with a habit of listening at doors at just the right moment to have the necessary clues presented to an age old mystery… et voila! Mystery solved! Hair still perfect!
