I started last weekend with an idea that I wanted to make a Goth post, if only because of the unfettered shopping opportunities presented by places I don’t normally frequent. And I was suitably impressed by the offerings, though I fear a little too literal in my interpretations of Goth (I am an unashamed pretender – I just like to make pictures).
Looking for guidance on the subject, I stumbled upon BlackWaterFall, and I found the stereotype caricatures and descriptions of Goths most amusing and illuminating. I’d planned to do many more in the series (Gothabilly! Deathrocker! Fetish Goths!), but I’m a slow moving beast and a fairly poor one, so perhaps it will have to wait for another month, or for the next Goth-y release to hit the stores.
I invest a lot into the images I put on my blog – I view it as my own small contribution to Second Life, and it really matters to me that they look as good as I can make them. Aside from trying to entice you to shop, I view my avatar as my own little canvas, sculpted by me and dressed (to my whims) by the consummate artists that populate the grid. Once I get a picture into Photoshop, I try to let my creative license run wild – sometimes the images are simple, sometimes they’re functional, but more and more I want them to be a (miniature) work of art (at least by my standards!).
This isn’t a new concept – Flickr is positively HEAVING with SL artists, and it’s one of my guilty pleasures to waste time at work pouring over people’s creations. I’m planning a post on the best of the best SL-related Flickr streams, so if you want to point me in a new direction, I’ll be very grateful.
These images, though, mean just a little more – maybe the clothes set the mood, maybe the mood guided my choices, but I threw out my rule book and tried to evoke a story, a mindset, something more than just a picture prettied up.
I don’t consider myself an artist – I love to spend my time fiddling with pretty things or trying to make thing prettier, but creating isn’t my lifeblood. These images, though, took a little more out of me than normal, and they really do reflect a mind space that wants you to wait… please.
I hope you like.

I think that Gen in ‘hide behind a wall of feathers’ could also become a cab goth. I think many of Gen’s past pictures lend themselves to one type or rather of goth. I can imagine how much work goes into these, but I love the goth images so much, and there is so many other goth types on black water fall. So may I suggest goth-ing up existing images.
