‘Hat’s Elegant

Hats. I loves them.

Oftentimes theatrical, silly, whimsical or outlandish, the hats that populate my inventory are outfit makers – unlike jewellery, which I throw on and off at an alarming rate with a marked lack of coordination (or concentration!), hats demand ‘an ensemble’. A fully-fledged, unabashed show of DRESSING. I have found myself rising to the challenge more and more, to the point that I thought a blog series might just be in order.

Elegance Hats, owned by Morrigan Hyun, has lived on the Ivalde sim for almost as long as it’s been in existence. Neferia Abel (Ivalde) and Morrigan share similar aesthetic sensibilities and the ability to loving recreate classic styles from the twentieth century. 

I’ve always thought of milliners as miniature architects. Morrigan’s creations are no exception – her hats and headwear scale great heights, adorn the face with a clever mix of materials and themes, and give the phrase ‘rakish angle’ a whole new meaning.

Shown above is Petal, a style released last year. There are three colour combinations available, and Morrigan is happy to customise colour combos (if you ask nicely!). I’ve paired it with a group gift dress from Thimbles (those kids are like Santa, with all the gift giving!) which is the most beautifully delicate thing I think I own. I will be at Floyd (Lloyd?) to get the rest of this pack this evening… and please, take that as a warning! If you see me coming, get out of the way. I HAZ CLOTHES TO BUY!

The Ahnya Pillbox Hat and matching necktie were only just released this month and I love all three of the styles available (there’s animal print, striped nautical and bellhop). Pillbox hats are perfect to wear with big, complicated hair- the simple geometric design means easy hat editing without pesky, stray hair-prims ruining the illusion, and there’s little need to do major hair renovation before leaving the house.

Actually, I found all Elegance Hats really easy to fit, and you can see I’ve worn a variety of hair styles. Major bonus points.

Betty, my final hat, was also a release from last year. There are quite a few of this sort of style available at Elegance – sculpturally interesting with tulle netting, feathers, flowers, rakish angles and eye-coverage. It makes me want to attend horse-based events (racing, polo, pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey/horse), all liveried up and sipping champagne. V. civilized and elegant.
